I. Product Overview
The A404K belongs to the Basler A400 series of area-scan industrial cameras. It is a native monochrome model, employing a CMOS rolling shutter sensor and standard Camera Link bus output. Its main selling point is high-speed 4-megapixel acquisition, making it suitable for PCB optical inspection, precision dimensional measurement, printing defect detection, and automated production line visual positioning. The compact industrial all-metal housing is ideal for embedded integration in confined spaces.
II. Sensor Parameters
The sensor is a 1/1.4-inch CMOS chip with an effective imaging resolution of 2352×1726 pixels. Each pixel has a physical size of 7.0 μm × 7.0 μm, resulting in approximately 4.01 million effective pixels. It features a native rolling shutter architecture, built-in Flash Window synchronization signal output, simulates global shutter exposure logic, and incorporates a pixel fixed noise (FPN) and pixel response non-uniformity (PRNU) in-camera correction circuitry. The imaging signal-to-noise ratio is close to that of comparable CCD cameras, and the native dynamic range is 54dB. III. Frame Rate and Bit Depth Configuration
The camera supports two Tap readout modes: 4Tap readout mode achieves a full-frame frame rate of 48 frames per second, while 8Tap high-speed readout mode reaches a full-frame frame rate of 96 frames per second. Pixel data bit depth can be selected in three output formats: 8-bit, 12-bit, and 14-bit. 8-bit is the default output format for Camera Link at full bandwidth. Higher bit depth modes will slightly reduce the actual output frame rate. The effective imaging area can be cropped using ROI windowing, which can further increase the frame rate.
IV. Interface and Electrical Parameters
The data output interface is a full-specification Camera Link, equipped with X/Y/Z three-channel data transceiver channels to meet high-speed, large data stream transmission. A serial communication pin is included for camera parameter configuration. The rated power supply voltage is DC 12V, and the power consumption under normal operating conditions is 2.5W. The exposure adjustment range is continuously adjustable from 0.05 microseconds to 170 milliseconds, supporting three exposure trigger modes: hardware external trigger, software trigger, and free operation. It features frame-valid and line-valid standard industrial timing signal output.
V. Physical and Mechanical Specifications
The overall dimensions are 44 mm wide, 44 mm high, and 29 mm deep, with a net weight of 100 grams. The lens mounting interface is an F-mount, compatible with F-mount industrial fixed-focus/zoom lenses. The operating ambient temperature range is -5°C to 45°C, and the storage tolerance temperature is -20°C to 70°C. The protection level meets the dustproof standards for conventional industrial workshops.
VI. Supporting Software and Compatibility
Compatible with the GenICam universal camera standard protocol, official Basler Pylon series drivers are provided. Third-party interfaces are compatible with mainstream vision development software such as VisionPro, Halcon, LabVIEW, and MATLAB. Image acquisition can be completed with a Camera Link acquisition card. The maximum cable transmission distance is 10 meters according to the Camera Link specification, with no repeater extension solution required.
VII. Series Differentiation Notes
Within the same series, the A402k has a full frame rate of 24fps, the A403k 48fps, and the A404k up to 96fps. All three models have identical resolutions, differing only in the number of Tap channels and output frame rate. The A404K does not have a native color version; color imaging requires an additional Bayer filter modification.
