General Description

GE Multilin UR-SHA is a high voltage power supply module developed for the UR series universal protection relays. It serves as the main power source for the UR modular relay platform, delivering stable regulated DC power to the backplane and all internal modules including CPU, I/O boards and communication cards. This module is designed for substation high-voltage auxiliary power environments, supporting wide AC and DC input range. It features integrated built-in diagnostic circuits to continuously monitor internal voltage rails, temperature and operating health status. Fault alarms can be reported to the relay main CPU and EnerVista configuration software. The unit adopts conformal coated PCB to improve reliability under humid, dusty and corrosive cabinet conditions. UR-SHA is hot-swappable, allowing replacement during system maintenance under proper operating procedures, and it can be deployed in redundant power supply configurations for critical bay protection applications.

Electrical Specifications

The module accepts wide range input: 125 V to 250 V AC or 125 V to 250 V DC. AC input frequency covers 47 Hz to 63 Hz. Maximum output power is 40 watts. It provides multiple regulated low voltage DC outputs for the UR relay internal circuits. Input to output and input to backplane isolation rating reaches 2500 V DC. Typical power efficiency is above 90%. Internal overcurrent protection with resettable fuse is implemented. The module supports auxiliary power supply for dry contact binary inputs. It is rated for pollution degree 3 for heavy industrial and substation cabinet installation. The module withstands vibration up to 5g RMS within 10 Hz to 500 Hz frequency range and meets specified shock test criteria. When installed inside the UR relay chassis, the assembly achieves IP20 ingress protection. The product complies with IEC 60255 protection relay standards and relevant EMC immunity requirements for power utility applications.

Mechanical and Installation Information

UR-SHA is a plug-in rack module for the UR universal relay chassis. It connects via dedicated backplane connectors and is secured with front panel ejector latches for easy insertion and removal. The metal housing provides electromagnetic shielding for the internal power conversion circuits. The PCB assembly is conformal coated. The module is installed in the dedicated power supply slot of UR series relays. Before hot-swap operation, users must follow substation safety procedures to avoid unexpected relay operation.

Application Notes

This power supply module is exclusively compatible with GE Multilin UR family universal relays such as transformer, feeder, busbar and generator protection relays. It is suitable for utility power substations and heavy industrial power control rooms. Redundant dual power supply arrangement with UR-SHA can enhance system availability for critical protection bays. EnerVista software can read module status, diagnostics and event logs. After module replacement, full power-on test and health status verification are required. Proper cabinet earthing and wiring separation are recommended to minimize electromagnetic interference.
