The following is the relevant information of the FBM224 P0926GG Foxboro communication interface module:
Overview: FBM224 is a Modbus communication interface module.
Provide interfaces between Modbus slave station devices (such as programmable logic controllers and field I/O devices) and the control processors (FCP280, FCP270/ZCP270 or CP60) of the Foxboro Evo™ process automation system or I/A Series system.
Characteristics
The RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 communication interface standards can be selected.
The Modbus slave station equipment data can be integrated into the Foxboro control database.
Equipped with relevant terminal components (TA), it is suitable for installation in Class 1, Zone 2 and Zone 2 locations.
Technical Specification
Number of channels: 4 channels.
The number of Modbus slave devices for each channel: up to 32.
Serial communication: Supports RS-485 or RS-232.
Baud rates: 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200.

Function description
Serial link setting: Data communication between FBM224 and Modbus slave devices is carried out through a 4-port terminal component (TA).
Each port of TA has a compression terminal for RS-422 and RS-485 wiring, and each port has a bus terminal resistor that can be selected through the DIP switch.
For the RS-232 connection, TA has a standard DB-25 male connector.
Each port has a split-line group composed of 24 DIP switches, which can be used for any RS-232 connection configuration.
Configurator: Two configurators are provided for Windows® or Solaris® versions to set the FBM224 port and subordinate configuration files.
The port configurator can easily set the communication parameters of each port (such as communication interface standards, baud rate, parity check).
Through the device transaction configurator, the transaction specifications of subordinate device files can be easily set. Each Modbus device can specify up to 64 independent transactions at most.
Data access: Each FBM224 can access up to 64 devices to read from or write data.
From the Foxboro control station connected to the FBM224, up to 2,000 distributed control interface (DCI) data can be connected for reading or writing data,
supporting analog input or output values, single digital input or output values, and multiple (packaged) digital input or output values.
Scanning rate and phase: Within the basic scanning cycle, the FBM224 performs all scheduled read/write transactions for each Modbus device.
Users can adjust the scanning rate and phase of each cycle to reduce the load on the FBM224 and/or Modbus devices. The scan rate specifies the periodic processing of device transactions and is a multiple of the basic scan cycle.
The default value is 500 ms, ranging from 500 milliseconds to 255 seconds.
The phase specifies the exact scanning cycle for executing device transactions.
Physical characteristics: It adopts a sturdy extruded aluminum casing to provide physical and electrical protection for the circuit.
The chassis specially designed for installing FBM can provide varying degrees of environmental protection, up to the harsh environment stipulated in ISA standard S71.04.
When disassembling or replacing the module, there is no need to remove the terminal cables, power or communication cables of the on-site equipment.
Fieldbus communication: The fieldbus communication module or control processor is connected to the redundant 2 Mbps module fieldbus used by the FBM.
The FBM224 can accept communication from either path (A or B) of the redundant 2 Mbps fieldbus. If one of the paths fails or a system-level switch occurs, the module will continue to communicate through the active path.
