Type: Communication interface module in industrial automation systems, belonging to the expansion components of Honeywell Safety Manager, PlantScape or Experion series control systems.

The standard configuration supports mainstream protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, OPC UA, etc. Optional DNP3, BACnet or Honeywell dedicated protocols (such as C300 communication protocol) are available.

Supports the simultaneous operation of 2 to 4 independent communication protocols to achieve data conversion between heterogeneous systems (such as forwarding Modbus device data to the PROFINET network).

Serial port and network port configuration:

It is usually equipped with 2 RS-485/RS-232 serial ports (supporting photoelectric isolation) and 2 Ethernet ports (adaptive to 10/100/1000Mbps), and some models support fiber optic interfaces (such as SFP slots).

Protocol Conversion and Data Mapping

The built-in programmable logic engine (such as ladder diagrams or function blocks based on IEC 61131-3) can perform preprocessing such as filtering, scaling, and alarm triggering on the original data, reducing the load on the upper computer.

Supports data caching and resume from breakpoint (such as built-in Flash memory), temporarily stores data when the network is interrupted, and automatically retransmits it after recovery to ensure data integrity.

Redundancy and High Availability

Supports dual network port redundancy (such as primary and backup Ethernet channels) or module redundancy (1:1 hot backup) to reduce the risk of single point of failure.

It complies with the IEEE 1588 precise clock protocol and supports network Time synchronization (NTP) to ensure the consistency of data timestamps across systems.

3. System Integration and Security

Industrial network access

It can be used as a Gateway to connect to the Honeywell Experion Distributed Control System (DCS) or the Safety Manager safety system to achieve data interaction between the control layer and the information layer.

Support cross-segment routing (such as setting different vlans), isolate industrial networks from office networks, and enhance information security.

Security mechanism:

Built-in firewall function, supporting IP filtering, port access control (ACL) and SSL/TLS encrypted communication (such as OPC UA security policy), and conforming to industrial information security standards (such as ISA/IEC 62443).
